How to choose my tattoo artist?

Before you choose what you want to decorate your body with, it is best to have the complete and right information first. Usually, when people get tattooed for the first time, they choose smaller tattoos and more hidden parts of the body. However, if they decide to have a second tattoo, it is then definitely the complete opposite from the first one. It is best and easiest to select a motif that is typical only for you and no one else! It could be something to which you are attached personally and emotionally, for example a memory, a person, an event... something that has a meaning only to you!

Those motifs which are chosen on the spot and without previously giving them good thought usually saturate people's need for a tattoo very quickly and easily, so it is possible that you might start feeling like that tattoo is no longer interesting or meaningful for you, let alone wishing to mark your body for the rest of your life! If some particular styles are forced today, it does not mean that they won't be fashionable tomorrow or that it will be foolish of you to pick them for your body!

Here are some advices ;)

Research, research and more research!

Not enough people take the time to research the artist that is right for them. There is so much amazing talent out there, so you don't have to go with the first artist you come across.

Nowadays most artists have online portfolios you can look at, but the best research is the tatto work you see in reality. Seeing a tattoo in real life is the best example of what your tattoo artist may be capable of.

When you're checking out new tattoo artists, look at their portfolios and consult with a few until you find the one you really like the best. Pick the artist that works with the kind of style you're looking for. It makes no sense to go to a fantastic portrait artist with an elaborate tribal design in mind.

There's always going to be someone out there that is a great technical artist in the style you want, but if they're into that same type, they'll do an even better job for you.

Check out a LOT of portfolios!

In this end, be sure to check out a LOT of portfolios! Your local artist may not necessarily be the best man (or woman) for the job. There are some great online sites that will give you links to various shop websites in your area so you can compare online portfolios.

As far as the design goes, whatever sticks in your head and won't go away is usually something you feel pretty passionate about and you will be happy with it in the long run. Good art (and permanent art!) is always worth a wait, so don't pick an artist based on convenience.

Do not get something just because it's the current trend. That's like gluing parachute pants to your behind!

Go for something that you truly enjoy the simple aesthetic of and make sure it fits the body part well. If there's something that you've connected with your whole life, that will most likely be a safe bet for your tattoo design. The first thing to look at in an artist is their is reputation. Second most important is their portfolio. Make sure the artist hasn't suffered any broken fingers, hands or wrists lately. When choosing a design, try to pick something that you're gonna be comfortable with forever and don't take yourself so seriously.

TATTOOS ARE NOT FASHION STATEMENTS!
